With just four ingredients, this beautiful starter dish is a simple and elegant way to begin your Japanese themed dinner.

Ingredients




  • 1/4 quantity Basic sushi rice (see related recipe)

  • 3 nori sheets, quartered

  • 50g smoked trout, flaked

  • 1 Lebanese cucumber, cut into 1.5cm wide ribbons












Method





  • Step 1


    Make Basic sushi rice (see related recipe). Place nori sheets, shiny-side down, on work bench. Place 2 teaspoons rice along centre of each sheet. Top rice with trout. Fold up nori sheets, folding in ends, to make 12 parcels.




  • Step 2


    Wrap 1 cucumber ribbon around the centre of each parcel. Serve.

Notes


You can find sushi seasoning, sushi mats, nori sheets and wasabi paste in the Asian section of larger supermarkets. Serve sushi with soy sauce, pickled ginger and extra wasabi paste.
